A role-play case study of the human and environmental impact of coal mining.
You live in Bellevale, a small town famous for its beautiful scenery and native animals. Your town has many visitors because of its natural attractions and many people make a living providing services and souvenirs for these visitors.
The State’s population is growing and the demand for energy is increasing. As a consequence, the Bellevale Town Council has been informed that the West Australian Government is considering a proposal to allow a mining company, EnergyWest, to build a coal mine in the area. Some of the townspeople are very upset but others believe that there will be many benefits. So strong is the feeling in the town that one-time good friends and neighbours are not speaking to each other.
Several of the residents don’t like what they see happening in their once-friendly town and decide to hold a public meeting in the town centre where anyone who wants to do so can have a say.
The Bellevale Situation - take me there.
