1967

No 3 turbo alternator at East Perth Power Station is decomissioned. It is now located at World of Energy.
  • A micro simplex cyclic catalytic reforming plant is installed in the East Perth Gas Works.

  • The Northern Terminal comes into service. The SEC takes over power stations in Koolyanobbing, Morawa and Perenjori.

1968

  • On 19 April, the 60MW No. 3 Unit at Muja Power Station is synchronised with No. 1 and No. 2 Units.

  • On 4 July, the State Electricity Commission of Western Australia Head Office is opened at 361 Wellington Street, Perth.

  • The SEC takes over the Port Hedland Power Station.

1969

Stage B at Muja Power Station is completed.

  • The SEC takes over power stations in Ballidu, Bolgart, Bruce Rock, Bencubbin, Dongara, Koorda, Mukinbudin, Narembeen, Shackleton, Three Springs and Wongan Hills.

  • In October, the SEC installs a Tempered Liquid Petroleum gas plant in Albany.

1970

  • Coal consumption exceeds 1,000,000 tonnes per annum for the first time.

  • On 11 September, the 120MW, No. 1 generating unit at Kwinana Power Station is commissioned.

  • On 20 November, the Premier, Sir David Brand officially opens the Kwinana Power Station.

  • The SEC takes over power stations in Westonia, Kununurra, Gingin and Halls Creek.

  • Natural gas in commercial quantities is discovered at Dongara.

1971

  • A Simulated Natural Gas (SNG) plant is installed in Bunbury. The gas is manufactured by mixing propane with air.

  • The SEC takes over power stations in Esperance and Mullewa.

  • The total number of electricity consumers in Western Australia reaches 200,000.

  • The North Rankin No.1 and Angel No.1 wells are discovered with major gas and condensate accumulations. A further major discovery is made at Goodwyn No. 1.

The 54,000 tonne North Rankin platform sits in 125 metres of water, 134km north west of Dampier.
  • The Collie Power Station is taken out of service in October.
The Collie Power Station is decommissioned in October 1971.
  • On 1 December, natural gas from the Dongara Field is turned on in Perth. The first domestic customer is a Lockridge family.

1972

  • The SEC takes over power stations in Onslow, Geraldton, Coorow, Carnamah, Mingenew, Yerecoin, Wandering and Walpole.

  • In June, the new 20MW gas turbine generating unit constructed in Geraldton, is commissioned.

1973

East Perth Power System Control Centre becomes operational.

  • The Country Town Assistance Scheme is introduced.

  • The Perth-Geraldton 132kV line is energised.

  • The Premier, John Tonkin opens the Redbank Power Station at Port Hedland.

1975

  • The Fuel and Power Commission is amalgamated with the State Electricity Commission to form the State Energy Commission of Western Australia (SEC of WA). Mr J B Kirkwood, Commissioner for Fuel and Power, is appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

  • Uniform domestic electricity charges are introduced in Western Australia. Every domestic customer is charged at the same rate no matter where they live in the state.

  • Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) raises crude oil prices by 400%.
