1958

  • The frequency change from 40 cycles to 50 cycles is completed in the metropolitan area and those areas supplied by the interconnected grid.

  • On 1 February, the last tram makes the run to North Perth.

  • On 3 May, the Wellington Dam 2MW hydro-electric power station is commissioned.

1959

  • On 4 May, the second 30MW generating unit comes on line at the Bunbury Power Station.

1960

  • On 22 April, Wagin Power Station is taken over by the SEC. The Collie-Wagin 66kV transmission line is energised.

  • On 2 November, the State Government announces plans to construct a new coal-fired power station at Muja, which is located 22km east of Collie.

  • The Contributory Extension Scheme for rural electricity supply is commenced.

1961

  • On 15 July, the four 30MW units come on line at the Bunbury Power Station.

  • Site clearance for the construction of Muja Power Station commences in November.

1962

  • Albany's two diesel power stations are closed as the interconnected system reaches the town.

  • Construction of Muja Power Station commences.

  • Work continues on the construction of Muja Power Station.

The smoke stack dominates the site for Muja.


1964

  • The Narrogin, Kendenup, Kojonup, Brookton and Pingelly Power Stations are taken over by the SEC.

1965

  • The State Government announces that a new power station will be built at Kwinana.

  • On 10 July, the 60MW, No. 1 turbo alternator and boiler at Muja Power Station is commissioned.

  • The Goomalling, Wyalkatchem, Wickepin, Dowerin, Quairading and Dumbleyung Power Stations are taken over by the SEC.

1966

Kwinana gradually takes shape.

  • On 21 April, the 60MW No. 2 unit at Muja Power Station comes online and the power station is opened by the Premier, Mr David Brand.

Muja Power Stations goes online.

  • The SEC takes over the power stations in Northampton, Corrigin, Augusta, Dwellingup, Beverley, Williams, Southern Cross, Bullfinch and Marvel Loch.
