Western Power Solar Model Boat Challenge

Challenge Results - 2008

The 2008 Western Power Solar Model Boat Challenge was held at the World of Energy on October 23 and 24. Over the two days of competition 19 schools raced 35 boats to see who would have the honour of representing Western Australia in the Australian International Solar Model Boat Challenge held in Hobart on November 22 and 23, 2008.

The racing pool at World of Energy.

Congratulations to all teams that participated in cloudy and sometimes damp conditions. While there was definitely a competitive spirit, everyone contributed to a friendly, fun and educational two days of racing.

From the outset it was clear that students had put a lot of thought, time and effort into their designs with most boats managing to record a time in the time trials on October 23.

Based on the time trial results obtained, the 15 fastest Junior Division boats and the three fastest Junior Restricted Division boats were invited back to compete in the finals at World of Energy on October 24.

A close finish in a Round Robin race.

After a series of Round Robin races, followed by some very exciting "knock out' and 'best of ...' finals races, the first two placegetters for each division were decided.
